My first adventure - Bungee jumping in Rishikesh |

Most of my life has been monotonous and quite frankly I wanted a little bit of adventure in my life. I’m not much of a sports junkie or a thrill seeker but I was always envious of my friends who were. I decided it was time to change that and made the decision to go bungee jumping. Go big or go home, right? After some research, I discovered that the most famous spot for bungee jumping in India was in Rishikesh. I found a number of other thrilling activities but there was nothing I wanted try more than bungee jumping in Rishikesh. I arrived two day earlier than planned and spent my time exploring the religious city and camping outdoors at riverside campsites. Finally, the day of the jump arrived. The jump day I was picked up and travelled to Mohanchatti, where India’s highest fixed bungee jump is situated. The height looked daunting enough from below but when I got to the top, I almost ditched my whole plan. It stands at a height of a 22 storey building! As I looked around at the mountains and the treetops and the silencing engulfing the place, I knew I had to do this. I climbed onto the platform and was strapped safely into the harness. The instructor was a really nice guy and did his best to dispel my fears. He probably gets cases like me all the time. He talked me through all the important rules, the safety measures and precautions and then tied the bungee rope tight around my ankles. The rushed beating of my heart was the only sound ringing in my ears. I stood there, saying a little prayer until my instructor gave me a go ahead to take the plunge. I counted down from three and jumped. I plummeted through the air, my fear flying away from me. I felt free and I screamed on top of my voice in joy. The fall may have lasted only a few seconds but I felt like it was hours before I felt the tug of the cord on my ankles. I jerked to stop and bounced a couple of times before the rope slowly lowered me into the river. I caught my breath and I felt a sense of pride wash over me. I had done it! I was super proud of myself. With a new found courage and adrenaline still coursing my veins, I decided to take on the Flying Fox activity. It was as exciting as the bungee jumping. The platform was 400 feet above the ground and I was strapped into a bag which was the harness. I took a deep breath and let gravity pull me forward along a cable. It was very fast and by the end I felt exhilarated. It was the perfect end to my bungee jumping in Rishikesh adventure and I am now planning on going to other places to take on bungee jumping in India.
