The Weekend Nag Tibba Trek |
Posted: November 14, 2019 |
My friends and I had tackled the Kedarkantha trek a month ago and I was still living in Uttarakhand. I wanted to experience another adventure before I headed back home, but only had time for a short trek. Some friends were joining me and they didn’t have any experience with treks, so I was looking for something easy too. My colleagues suggested that I book the Nag Tibba trek.
It was perfect and it didn't disappoint in the least.
The Nag Tibba trek was a short, wholesome trek of just 2 days. Going with friends is always a good choice as a group makes the trip even more fun. As I was already staying in Dehradun, we had an easy drive to the starting point. We set off on the trek early morning on a Friday, with a couple of other people and a trek leader. We trekked for a total of 14 km. over the next two days.
Our trek leader kept giving us random facts about Nag Tibba through our journey. We learned that Nag Tibba means Serpent’s Peak and it is located at an altitude of 9,915 feet, at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayas. We obviously knew all this but it was still nice to discuss with our group. We climbed upwards through dense and misty forests of pine and rhododendron and there were orchids laid at our feet. We spotted many other blossoming flowers, a few paths had a healthy sprinkling of snow and we could see splendid views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains all around us.
Our trek leader pointed out the Himalayan ranges we came across like Bandarpoonch, swargarohini, black peak, Srikant and many more. We recognised the Kedarnath peak in the north and the memories of our Kedarnath trek came flooding back to us. We kept trekking deep into the mountains and spotted the Doon valley and the snow peaks of Changabang. Each step we took, we were gifted with even more spectacular views.
We set up camp underneath the Nag Tibba peak. We breathed in the fresh cool air and revealed in the magical beauty of the mountains, the forests, the streams and the sound of chirping birds. There was calmness in the air as we fell asleep. We woke up early the next morning to witness the most beautiful sunrise. We then readied ourselves to begin our descent back to the starting point. We walked back the picturesque trail and reached the point by late evening.
We had a fantastic month in Uttarakhand and would recommend both the Kedarkantha and Nag Tibaa trek to anyone wanting to explore the mountains of Uttarakhand. We came back home feeling totally refreshed and we had created tons of memories that would last a lifetime. I would urge everyone to take needed breaks from the city life and go to the hills and connect with nature. I know I can’t wait to begin my next trekking adventure.
