What is video management software and why is it used |

Video management software helps in recording or storing videos to a storage device and provides an effective interface to view the live video and even access the recorded video. Be it a digital video recorder or a network video recorder, the VMS (Video Management Software) can be the software component even though VMS tends to be more sophisticated. There is a difference between the built-in features of a modern network-based security camera and a video management software. Most modern network-based cameras offer internal capabilities for recording and reviewing videos directly via a web browser and without having to use the VMS. However, the built-in web interface is exclusive to the camera and it doesn’t provide the capability of shared access across other network cameras. Effective video management systems are the combination of server hardware and video software. When choosing a security or video management system, there are a few factors to consider: • Architecture is one important factor to consider when selecting a VMS. For instance, a standalone software at each station is required in an NVR solution with several computer workstations. Modern VMS uses server-client architecture that communicates constantly. This leads to greater scalability and flexibility and even simple configuration. Be it a VMS or fiber-enabled cameras, it is very important to do some research and make a choice. Features of a VMS As mentioned-earlier, VMS is an essential part of any security surveillance system. It allows the user to manage recording and camera settings. It is also makes it easy for the user to view multiple camera feeds and set alerts for motion detection. VMS helps in reviewing and analyzing the recorded video, giving important information to the user. Core Functionality • It is important for a VMS to present remote access to users in different parts of a building. This is in order to see live camera views with control features like pan, tilt and zoom.
