Sarfarosh is a 1999 Aamir Khan, Naseerudin Shah and Sonali Bendre starrer film directed by John Matthew Matthan. It is a Hindi drama film that deals with the sensitive issue of cross-border terrorism and a police officer’s quest fuelled by personal angst to put this to an end.

- It took seven years for director John Matthew Matthan to work on the research, production and post production of the film Sarfarosh starting from 1992 to its release in 1999.
- It would perk up the interest levels of all Nawaz fans to know that Sarfarosh was the first big production film where Nawazuddin Siddiqui He was at that time a struggling actor working in very insignificant roles. As luck would have it the actor who was scheduled to play the part of the prisoner did not turn up and Nawaz was considered as a result.
- This film happened to release at a unique time when relations between Pakistan and India were quite strained as a result of Kargil war.

In reality in 1998, the Pakistani Ghazal singer by the name of Ghulam Ali received severe opposition by right-wing political parties for performing in Mumbai. But Ghulam Ali is a favourite of both Pakistanis and Indians.
