Lok Parlok: Blast From The Past |
Posted: November 8, 2017 |
If you are familiar with the movies of the late 70s and early 80s, you know that the flicks of this era of Bollywood, despite being a bit loud and over the top, pack in great entertainment value. These movies could be safely watched by all the members of a family together without eyebrows being raised as they usually came with a moral at the end of the story that viewers could take away from. Lok Parlok from the year 1979 is one such fantasy tale, which comes with a strong lesson to be learned. Starring Jeetendra in the lead role, this almost four decades old movie features Jayaprada as his leading lady and Madan Puri as the antagonist or the main villain of the movie. The director of the movie was Rama Rao Tatineni. In true 80s style, the movie features a poor but gutsy and bold hero, Amar (Jeetendra) in love with a rich man’s daughter Savitri (Jayaprada). Amar is known to be a trouble-maker but in a good way, trying his level best to put an end to evil practices of the Panchayat head and also Savitri’s father, Kalicharan (Madan Puri). Kalicharan, fed up of Amar’s antics, decides to have him killed and even hires the professional killer Ram Shastri (Amjad Khan) to carry out his brutal murder. Amar dies and gets entry into Swarg Lok or heaven where he finds Devraj Indra as well as Yamraj. He sees that heaven too is embroiled in corrupt activities and that justice is meted out in improper ways, same as it is for those on earth. With the long trial scene in heaven in Lok Parlok, the director takes a jibe at the political scenario of the time, revealing its ugliness to the audience. Seeing the states of affair, Amar urges Yamdoots to go on strike against the other gods. The gods fight as Indra indulges in moments of pleasure. Lok Parlok is a blast from the past that can still be watched in today’s day and age due to the relevance of its theme of corruption and how only simple and honest folks suffer at the hands of the law. That said, Lok Parlok features outstanding music too, composed by the revered and famed duo of Laxmikant and Pyarelal. Most of its scores have been sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar, and the lyrics perfectly depict the state of affairs. Lok Parlok is a must-watch if you want to revisit the glorious days of the 70s and 80s.
