We are in an environment where the air pollution levels are increasing day by day due to the actions of human nature; all major industries mainly manufacturing industries which involve employees to work in hazardous environment that directly affects an organ which is vital for our survival “The Lung”. Apart from this vehicle pollution and a very common human action or in other words what has become a culture is smoking cigarettes. All these actions and factors directly affect the lung and leads to a situation called Bronchitis which makes us question “What is Bronchitis?”
So now we will look upon the question. Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from your lungs. Bronchitis could be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is temporary and usually improves within a few days if taken care but the coughing might continue for several weeks. Whereas if the person has repeated coughs which lasts for more than weeks and starts to experience distress, it might be the chronic case and this requires medical attention. This solves the query of what is bronchitis and also tells its types.
What is bronchitis and its causes - Let’s look into the causes and symptoms of the above. The common cause of bronchitis is the habit of smoking and other air pollution and the case of acute bronchitis is caused by the same viruses responsible for common cold and flu. The signs of both acute and chronic bronchitis include cough, sputum, and shortness of breath, slight fever, chills and chest discomfort. In the case of acute bronchitis the coughs may continue for several weeks and there are no antibiotics for these viruses. Thereby, the concern of what is bronchitis and what are its common triggers is addressed.
The bronchitis treatment procedures - usually prescribed by the doctors are antibiotics, cough medicine and other medications like inhaler. In case of Chronic bronchitis the person may benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation. This is a breathing exercise where a therapist advises the person on how to breathe with ease and to increase the person’s ability to exercise. There are many others techniques towards bronchitis treatment that come under natural therapies like hot fluids, steam, and honey with warm milk and turmeric with milk.
The case of chronic cough - The severe case of bronchitis is lingering cough where the cough lasts for more than 8 weeks among adults and around 4 weeks in children. It can disturb sleep patterns and drain the energy from the person. It is difficult to locate the cause of it in the case of asthma. The most common causes are tobacco use, postnasal drip, asthma and acid reflux. Once the actual reason for the problem is treated the person usually recovers faster. The diagnosis of this type of bronchitis involves imaging tests like X-ray and CT scans. Although X-ray won’t reveal the common reasons for cough it would help in identifying lung cancer, pneumonia and other lung diseases. The next diagnosis of chronic cough is a noninvasive lung function test which measures how much air the person’s lung can hold and how fast he exhales and the other diagnosis is the lab test of the mucus to search for bacteria.
